What sort of potential do you see?
What Potential do I see with Talossa? That is a very good question and thank you for asking. =) When I say this I look far, far into the future because we do have a long way to go. There are a lot of things that need to be done, big and small, to get there. Some of which I do see and some of it I do not. I believe that Talossa can be the benchmark and shining example for a world spanning government that believes in maximizing personal freedom as long as it does not infringe on the rights of the masses. I believe that this defines Talossan values. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Talossa is different from most other micronations in that we are one of the few democracies and, by virtue of that, I believe, we will one of the few that will be able to truly get anywhere. Monarchies and dictatorships have been dying out for a very, very long time and there are reasons for it. One of those reasons is Personal Freedom! The world is moving more and more towards a personal freedom maximizing world community. We can set the standard for what a world spanning nation should be. The benchmark and shining example for a government that guarantees personal freedom as long as it does not infringe of the rights of the masses.
We are not held down by antiquated definitions and juggernaut legal systems that are ingrained into the very fiber of every law and would require an complete overhauling of many legal systems to effectuate even a fundamental change. Changes to our laws will affect no one quite yet. We have the opportunity to try to be able to do it right the first time. We have the unique opportunity to be able show the world the government of tomorrow, today.
We have the opportunity to learn from the successes and failures of the nations that come before us.Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I am not saying that we template our government by only using the ideas of the past, because that would be foolish but there is a vast database of test cases to be learned from as we are defining our laws and our nation.
We need to set forth laws that unequivocally show the the world that this is the nation of Talossa and we hold sacred personal freedoms. If we do not explicitly show it then it will be harder for other nations, macro or not, to take us seriously. There are many progressive things that can be done but will be difficult for many to accept, even as Talossans, but will maximize freedom and live up to Talossan values. To not prepare for macronational relations by creating explicit laws is a mistake that will relegate Talossa to "hobby" status. That is not what I want. That is not what I see.
I do see a time when the peoples of Talossa can have an impact on the world and can make a difference, but we have to prepare for this while keeping in mind that we are micronation in the midst of macronations. If we are to impact the world we need to understand the rules by which the macronations operate and understand what it is that defines them so that we can look like them and be able to play by their rules. I do not mean that we need everything that macronations have, but, if we are to be accepted, there will have to be key similarities or they will not be able to relate, or we will not be able to relate to them because our laws are so drastically different. There will be many questions that macronations and prospective citizens have and will need to be answered for them to be comfortable and be willing to work with us.
An example of what is possible and what has come before us is World Service Authority. Their ideals are somewhat similar to ours and they have accomplished some recognition and acceptance as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works with the United Nations.
This is sounding more and more like a speech to support Progrssivism, which was not intended. This is the potential I see. I do not want to sow false hopes, but if we do not shoot for the stars then will we would never know that we could reach to moon. Shoot for the stars, that is all that I am asking.
